NORTON - Edward J. Balash, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Edward was born in Barberton on November 18, 1933 to John and Elizabeth (Freno) Balash.  He attended St. Augustine Catholic Church where he was involved in the holy hour and funeral luncheon programs.  He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers.  After graduating from Barberton High School in 1951, he served in the U.S. Army and worked for Ohio Bell for 42 years until his retirement.  After retiring he went on to work for another 18 years for Amerifleet. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Stephen; he is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dora Leigh (Scott); children Edward Balash Jr. of Canton, Robert (Martha) Balash of Norton, Laura (Scott) Dority of Uniontown, Jeffrey (Brenda) Balash of Massillon, Judee Balash of Cuyahoga Falls, and Julee (Brad) Miller of Randolph; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother John (Irene) Balash of Norton, sister MaryAnn Sabo of Seville; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Special thank you to the staff at Rockynol and VNS Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton.  Fr. William Browne celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church.
