Gerald Lynn Baughman

November 24, 1942 ~ January 3, 2018 (age 75) 75 Years Old

BATH--Gerald Lynn Baughman, 75, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home with family by his side after a brief fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Jerry was born on November 24, 1942 to Osborne and Marcella Baughman in Akron, Ohio. He spent much of his early life in the Barberton and Norton area. After graduating with the Class of 1960 from Barberton High School, he attended the University of Akron, graduating with a degree in accounting. He then worked as a self-employed CPA in Barberton for 26 years. For many years, Jerry was an active community member in the Barberton Rotary Club and the United Way of Barberton. Jerry was a devoted family man and his hobby, without question, was his 33 grandchildren. When he wasn’t working, he could usually be found at one of his grandchildren’s athletic or school events. He also enjoyed spending time at Apple Valley boating, tubing, and teaching the grandchildren to waterski. He was also well known for his schedules, lists, and of course, his yellow legal pads. One of the family’s favorite memories was the frequent Grandparent’s Night, where all the grandchildren were invited to gather at the Harmony Road home for five hours of cousin time while the parents went on a “date night,” something Jerry was adamant about promoting a successful marriage. A traditional dinner of rigatoni, applesauce, and lemonade was served. Following dinner, each child was permitted to make his/her own ice cream sundae for dessert. After dinner, it was time for a dance party in the living room, complete with a disco ball. All 33 grandchildren still reminisce about the 25 years of Grandparents’ Nights. They all looked forward to these nights even when they were in high school, college and married. Jerry will be dearly missed by his wife Janet of 43 years; sisters Barb Yerman and Sharma (Greg) Carris, and brother-in-law Steve Modory; 10 children Jerry (Beth), Norton; Michele (Joe) Patterson, Norton; Todd (Allison), Wadsworth; Elizabeth (Dan) Hall, Batesville, IN; Dawn (Matt) Corsaro, Mentor; Jennifer (Dan) Vari, Richfield; Kris (Dean) Beddow, Wadsworth; Meredith (Kirk) Gibbons, Bath; Eric, Norton; David (Tanya), Hudson; 33 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Yerman and sister, Darlene Modory. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West Barberton. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling Hours Monday from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Right to Life of Northeast Ohio.
