BARBERTON---We have lost a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, sister and aunt. Mary Despot (nee Hornacek) went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2017. Mary was a life resident of Barberton and attended Barberton High School and Barberton School of Commerce. She retired from the Summit County Probate court as secretary to the late Dean F. May, Probate judge. Mary was life time member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church until its closing, a member of St Anne’s Society, Rosary Society, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and Slovak Catholic Falcon and a current member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Akron. She was also a member of the Barberton Emblem Club. Mary loved to dance, play and cheat at Euchre, work crossword and picture puzzles and spending time with her family. She was the beloved wife of Stephen who predeceased her; also her parents Joseph and Mary Hornacek; brothers John and Joseph and twin sister Julianna Pilger, infant sister Florence and granddaughter Patience Curry. She is survived by son Stephen Jr. (Johanne) of Barberton; Terrence (Karen) of Martinsville, VA; Kenneth (Ann) of Wadsworth and Karen (Richard) Testa of Uniontown; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and sister Agnes (Edward) Sboray. The family wants to extend a very special thanks to the entire staff at Manor Care Barberton for their care and compassion, especially nurse Laura Pumphrey, you are an angel on earth. Special thanks also to Heartland Hospice for the special attention they provided. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling Hours Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton.
