Andrew G. Somercik

BARBERTON---Andrew G. Somercik, 85, passed away January 24, 2018 at the Hospice Care Center.

Andy was born in Barberton and worked at Wagner Castings in Decatur, IL for 24 years. While in Illinois, he taught part time at Richland Community College. Andy returned to Barberton in 2014 and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 1617 and Garfield Memorial American Legion Post 566. Andy was also an avid accordion player. He was a proud Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War as an Airborne Radio Operator.

Preceded in death his parents Andrew and Anna; and brother Edward; He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth M.; children Laura (Dave) Wells of Illinois, Andrea (Steve) Reid of Kansas, Christopher (Teresa) of Michigan, Melanie Somercik of Missouri and Randall (Amy) of Minnesota; ten grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW, Barberton. Calling Hours Friday from 5-7 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Saturday morning at 9:30 A.M. Interment on Monday, January 29th at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Procession to form at the funeral home at 9:45 A.M.
