MARSHALLVILLE---Diane Marie (Patrick) Matheny, known to most as Dee, 67, went to be with the Lord on Monday May 28, 2018, at The Laurels of Massillon, after a courageous five year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. You fought the hard fight Dee and you kept the faith.
Diane was born in Barberton to William and Rita Patrick and resided in Marshallville all of her life. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Clinton and attended Sts. Phillip and James Catholic Church in Canal Fulton.
Diane attended Sts. Peter and Paul grade school in Doylestown her first eight years and graduated from Smithville High School in 1969.
She was a fantastic cook and loved to bake! She loved making candy and according to many, her “Almond Bark” was the best they ever tasted! She also enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and spending time with her husband Terry and rescue dog, Molly.
Diane was employed at many places. Friends may remember her from Kentucky Fried Chicken, Orrville; Norton Plastics, Orrville; Marshallville Packing, Marshallville; Telxon Corp, Fairlawn; Orrville Leather, Orrville; Daly’s Appliance and Yoder Brothers, Barberton; Laufen Tile, Canton and AEP Electric Power Co, Canton.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents William and Rita Patrick; father and mother-in-law Ray and Anne Matheny; and her close friend for nearly 50 years, Betty Geig. Surviving in addition to her loving husband, Terry of Marshallville, are her sisters Janet (Gary) Johns and Joanne Trogdon all of Marshallville; nephews Lou Johns of Alexandria, VA, Michael (Aimee) Johns of Marshallville, Tyler Trogdon of Columbus; nieces Sarah (Salvatore) Oliverio and Nicole Trogdon (fiancé Alex Dhayer) all of Marshallville; and her dear friend of many years Judy Dudash of Rittman; and many great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Laurels of Massillon and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care of Diane during her final three weeks of life.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated. A gathering of family, friends and neighbors will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161 West Clinton St., Doylestown. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 A.M. Fr. Robert Stein and Fr. John Kumse (her cousin) con-celebrating.
