Rev. Ralph Young Obituary

BARBERTON--Ralph L. Young passed away unexpectedly Wednesday February 6th in the presence of his loving family. Born September 16, 1933 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania to the late Jesse H. and Blanche (née Pounds) Young, he was the brother of Robert Young (Opal) and Jesse Young (Helen). He was married to his college sweetheart, best friend and joy of his life, Adie for 63 years. He was the very proud father of Jeff Young (Katie Franks), Joe Young (Carolyn), Jill Sommers (Brian), and Bob Young; very proud grandfather of Alex Young (fiancée Katie Williams), Dea Westfall, Adam Young (Lauren Bellamy), Jocelyn Keferl (Todd), Andy Westfall, Teddy Sommers, Ezekiel Sommers, and Sabrina Sommers. Ralph was joyfully awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild due in May. Ralph, a Red Letter Christian for more than fifty years, had the privilege of sharing the message of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and the power of God's inclusive and unconditional love. Originally ordained in the American Baptist denomination, he served the last thirty years of his ministry with the United Church of Christ at Columbia UCC in Barberton, Ohio. Ralph extended his ministry through service to the community including Rotary International, Summit County Board of Mental Health, United Way, and numerous capacities in the City of Barberton including the school board, parks department, and public library. Ralph was an avid reed (pump) organ enthusiast. He was a member of the Reed Organ Society and enjoyed collecting, restoring, and sharing his love for these beautiful, old instruments. At Ralph's request, he has been cremated, and there will not be a funeral service.  He asked that his family gather for a time of remembrance and celebration. His ashes will be scattered in the Gulf Stream about a stone's throw from the white sand of the Grand Strand. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Columbia United Church of Christ in Barberton. Ralph was most thankful for the love of his family and for the love of his many friends who brought much joy to his life's journey. He will be remembered for his patience, curiosity, unbridled optimism, and boundless kindness. To share a memory or send a condolence, please visit www.silva-hostetler.com (330-825-8700)
