BARBERTON---Albert Martin Lee passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Justin T. Rogers Care Center on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Al was born to the late Daniel Malley and Clara Antoinette Lee (Davis) on July 29, 1923 in Monterey, Tennessee, but had resided in Barberton, a city he loved, nearly all of his life.
Al attended Barberton High School and then went to work for the Babcock and Wilcox Co., where he enjoyed a 43-year career, retiring in 1981. He left the company from 1942 - 1945 to serve his country in World War II.
Al was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church since 1946. During his years with the church, he orchestrated the Holy Hour program and served as head usher. He was a Boy Scout leader when his boys were young and participated in numerous activities at the school as well as the church.
Al remained active in his community as a member of the American Legion Post #0449, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and also the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 1766 in Wadsworth and the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 1617 in Barberton. He also served on the Barberton Zoning Board committee for many years.
Al had a deep love for this country and was a proud member of the Barberton VFW Post #1066. He had a love and respect for his fellow veterans and enjoyed the time he spent there as a trustee. As a member of "The Greatest Generation," Al served his country well during World War II and was honored with a Purple Heart.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Barbara, and by six children: Patricia Svec, Ronald, Robert (Sally), Mary Ann Carmen (Pat), Teresa Stallworth (Jeff) and Mark (Theresa). He also leaves 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Christine and Donnell. Al was preceded in death by three sisters Audrey, Lucille and Claudine and his son-in-law Lawrence.
The family would like to thank the caring individuals at the Justin T. Rogers Care Center in Fairlawn who helped fill Al's final days with peace and dignity.
"It broke our hearts to lose you. But you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you. The day God called you home."
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling hours Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers. Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Endowment Fund.
