Alice Hughes Gabriel

Alice Marie (DeVane) Hughes-Gabriel went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. Alice was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many.


Alice lived life to the fullest many of her 87 years. Most of all she enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her friends and family. Alice was an avid shopper, euchre player and enjoyed much time socializing with her friends. Alice worked at First National/ First Merit Bank in Barberton starting at the age of sixteen up until the time of her retirement. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Barberton where she was an active member for many years. Upon retirement Alice enjoyed volunteering at the church and at Pleasant View Health Care Center in the gift shop.


Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, David Reese Hughes, her second husband, William Gabriel, her sister, Estelle Daiger, her brother, Robert DeVane and her parents Robert and Esther DeVane.


Alice is survived by her dear brother Edward DeVane, daughters Linda Hughes and Sandy Schneider, grandchildren Elissa Schneider, Jaci (Matt) Tiell and Zach (April) Schneider and three great grandchildren. As well as nieces and nephews.


Calling Hours will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Barberton, 636 W. Park Ave. Funeral Service immediately following. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
