Andrew V. Hatala, 88, of Norton, passed away on May 19 after a short courageous battle with cancer.



Andy was born on August 5, 1926, in Barberton. A graduate of Garfield High, he served in the 101st Airborne Division, (the Screaming Eagles), during World War II. He fought in the Battle of Bastogne and upon returning from the war, married Pauline Hatala, his wife of 67 years. Andy was a proud member of the Bricklayers, Union Local #7 for 67 years. He helped build numerous buildings around the community, including Akron General and the University of Akron. His biggest accomplishment was doing the granite stone on the John F. Seiberling Federal Building.

Andy will be remembered for his smile, and making people laugh at his numerous stories.

He enjoyed polka music and ethnic food and he loved family get togethers.



Andy is survived by his wife, Pauline; his children, Andrew V. Hatala Jr., Valerie (Bernie) Trevino, and Joseph A. (Sherry) Hatala; his grandchildren, Krista Hatala, Jason (Laura) Hatala, and Jon (Kristen) Wile; and his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jaxon Hatala.



Andy was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph P. Hatala, and sisters, Anne Hatala and Helen Ondrejko; his daughter, Wendellyne A. Graef; and his son, Joseph N. Hatala.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday May 28, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave, Barberton. Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Calling hours will be held at Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Private burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Brookdale Sterling House 487 Austin Dr., Barberton in Andy's honor.
