Andrew P. Ligas

BARBERTON---Andy Ligas, 98 years and 8 months, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013. He was born in Barberton on January 15, 1915. He was a lifetime resident of Barberton and a member (94 years) of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church and a longtime member of its Holy Name Society until the church closed. He currently was a member of St. Augustine parish. Andy was a stationary engineer in the power department at PPG for 47 years. After his retirement he and his wife performed with the Singing Strings tamburitzan group for many years touring in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nashville, Washington, D.C., and Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary (Cervan) Ligas; siblings Mary (Richard) Kenna, Susan, Elizabeth, Frank, Ann (Louis) Shipka, Josephine (Steve) Machek, Joseph (Vivian) Ligas and brother-in-law Richard Seifert. He is survived by his wife of 73 years Catherine; children Mary (John) Ferraro, Teena, Andy (Sue), Larry, Richard (Laura), Teresa (Wes) Burnett, and Mark (Cynthia); grandchildren Rita, Andrea, and Dr. Martina Ferraro, Daniel and Anna Ligas; siblings George Ligas, Peter Ligas, and Margaret Seifert; sisters-in-law Norma Ligas and Patty Ligas and many nieces and nephews. We wish to sincerely thank the Morris family, the care givers and staff of Pleasant Pointe and Pleasant View, Dr. Paul Coleman and staff, Dr. James Brown, and Caryl. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October, 14, 2013 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Sunday, from 2-8 P.M. with Rosary at 7:30 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, where prayers will be said on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
