BARBERTON---Andrew Maxim, 84, passed away August 28, 2010 at Summa Barberton Hospital. Born in Cambridge, Ohio Andrew was a Barberton resident all his life where he retired from Seiberling Tire and Rubber Co. after 30 years and also from the Babcock and Wilcox Co. after many years. He was currently a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a member of the former Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. Andrew was a member of the Jednota Lodge and a Past President of Jednota Branch 425 for many years. He was also a former Little League umpire and member and former director of the Barberton Slovak Chorus and a proud Navy Veteran having served during WWII. Preceded in death by his daughter Andrea Obraza; brothers John, Michael and Joseph; and sisters Mary Hlas, Anna Klinovsky and Agnes Biro; Survivors include his loving wife Evelyn M.; daughters Cheryl (John) Shuman, Marilyn Maxim and Barb (Jeff) Saylor; son-in-law John Obraza; grandchildren John, Jaclyn and Timothy Shuman, Ryan (Christina) Obraza, Andrew (Amanda) Saylor and Kristin and Scott Saylor; sister Helen (Bob) Hagedorn; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr.'s Glenn Black, Andrew Haas Jr., Mark Byrge and Patrick Saavedra and also the wonderful nurses and other staff at Summa Barberton Hospital for all their loving care and support. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 1:00 PM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton. Interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery, where Wadsworth VFW Post 1089 and American Legion Post 170 will perform Military Honors. Calling Hours Tuesday from 6-9 PM at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Wednesday at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.
