Barbara “Joyce” Coburn, age 73 of Barberton, Ohio, died on November 15, 2024 after a fight with cancer.
She was born May 22, 1951 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the daughter of the late M. Del Wilson, Gertrude (Matthews) and Armand Fatica. Joyce was an active politician, serving on Barberton’s City Council for 8 years. She was an avid quilter, and opened her dream shop in downtown Barberton in 2016.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Terry Coburn; Children Martine Wilson and Jacob (Patti) Miller, step-daughter Rena (Jason) Hamric; siblings Gerald (Linda) Bishop, Elaine Finney, Connie (Doug) Mueller, Christine (James) Cooper, Tina Lourenco, and Lisa (Mark) Fatica; grandchildren, Alekzandria (Dan) Peugh, Stephanie (Zac) Peugh, Dakotah Thompkins, Victoria (Georgia) Denison, Valeri (Daniel) Gray, Leatha (Nathan) Freeberg, Emily (Kelly) Sizemore, Charlotte Denison, Chloe Hamric, Jacob Miller, Jr., Elizabeth Denison, Stephen Denison, Alana Hamric, and Jace Hamric; Honorary Grandchildren, Emma and William; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, son, Joe Denison, and step-son, Chuck Coburn. Joyce's family would like to send a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who helped care for her, and also to her daughter, Martine, who stayed by her side from the time of her diagnosis until the end.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Lakeview Christian Church, 4613 S. Main St, Green, OH 44319 at 6:00 p.m. Her family encourages anyone attending to wear Joyce's favorite color, purple. Following the service, a reception in her memory will be held at White Rabbit Galleries, 571 W. Tuscarawas Ave, Barberton 44203.
