Bernard "Bernie" J. Reed, 75, of Green, Ohio, passed away on December 26, 2025. He was born on April 14, 1950, in Akron, Ohio.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Janet Reed.
He is survived by his children, Bridget (Richard) Moore, Paul Reed, and Lance (Katie) Reed; grandchildren Taylor, Chase, Cassidy, Aden, Abby, and Ben; great-grandchildren Emma, Elliot, Tyler, and Cambria; siblings Orville (Kathy) Reed, Janet (Brian) Cuthbert, Mike (Brenda) Reed, Susan (Ray) Leach, Patti (Craig) Chamier, and Tim (Carol) Reed.
A 1968 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School, Bernie earned a bachelor's degree in business and economics from Illinois Benedictine College. A voracious reader with a curious mind, he returned to the classroom at age 53 to complete his Executive MBA from Kent State University.
Bernie dedicated 43 years to Babcock & Wilcox, beginning his career in Barberton, Ohio, before assignments in Long Beach and Chicago, and ultimately returning to Barberton, where it all began.
Family and community were at the center of Bernie's life. He coached youth football and baseball, cheering from behind the dugout for years. He volunteered with local nonprofits and stayed active in civic causes, including the Summit County Republican Party, and Summit County Board of Elections. He held Cleveland Indians season tickets for many years, spent countless afternoons on the golf course with friends, and never missed a chance to lend a hand on a remodeling project for family or friends. He maintained a lifelong dedication to physical fitness and could often be found walking through his neighborhood or at the wellness center.
What Bernie loved most was time with family and friends. An afternoon lunch from Skyway. Dinner at Winking Lizard or Gasoline Alley, full of conversation and laughter. Family vacations that brought everyone together. This was how he built memories. And nothing mattered more to him.
His love for his family was constant, and it was deeply felt by all who knew him.
