Catherine L. Herold

BARBERTON - Catherine L. Herold, 88, passed away peacefully on June 16. Catherine was born May 15, 1933 to John & Mary Herold. Being the fourth of seven children, her placement squarely in the middle of a large family reflects a devotion to family that would become one of her hallmarks. She was preceded in death by parents and siblings.  Catherine was born and resided in Barberton most of her life. An excellent student, she attended St. Augustine Grade School, Highland Jr. High, and Barberton High School. After school, she made a career at Babcock and Wilcox. She spent the last few years as a resident of The Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn. Catherine lived out her vocation of the single life as an incredible daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, Godmother, cousin, and friend. Her love of family and friends, both immediate and extended, is her cherished legacy. This is most evident to many of us in that she was a story keeper and story sharer. She loved peoples’ stories and she wanted to hear them all! Through the years, she added all these stories to her seemingly encyclopedic memory and kept them close to her heart. For her 88thbirthday in May she was able to get out visiting one last time. You should have seen the smile on her face. No doubt, she is thoroughly enjoying an early Herold-O'Brien Family reunion in Heaven this year! Catherine’s other great love in her life was her Catholic Christian faith. A lifelong member of St. Augustine Church, her prayer life and parish participation were central to who she was. The Eucharist, the Rosary, and prayerful Holy Hours sustained and nourished her love of God. As a niece-described “Prayer Warrior”, she included all of us in her prayers and expressed that she will continue this in the afterlife. Amen.  Fittingly, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW., Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 3-6 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church. The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Catherine’s caregivers over these last years-from home to the Village of St Edward to Akron General Hospice Center. Thank You.
