BARBERTON - Catherine "Kate" Ligas (nee Ostovich), 98, joined her husband of 73 years, Andy on October 24th. He preceded her in death in 2013. Kate was born on January 23, 1917 in Granite City, Illinois but lived most of her life in Barberton. She attended SS Cyril & Methodius Church and currently was a parishioner at St. Augustine Church. Kate worked at Yoder Brothers Greenhouse, Hopocan Gardens and managed the German Brethren Union in Barberton. She and Andy performed with the Singing Strings Tamburitzan group for many years touring in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nashville, Washington, D.C. and Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Daniel Ostovich, brother John (Sue) Ostovich, nephew John Ostovich, uncle and aunt Matthew and Julia Ostovich. She is survived by her children Mary (John) Ferraro, Teena, Andy (Sue), Larry, Rick (Laura), Teresa (Wesley) Burnett, and Mark (Cynthia); grandchildren Rita Ferraro, Dr. Andrea Ferraro, Dr. Martina Ferraro, Daniel Ligas, and Anna Ligas; cousin Mary Shepherd; sisters-in-law Norma Ligas, Margaret Genet, and Patty Ligas; brother-in-law Peter Ligas and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank VNS Hospice of Akron General and nurses Karen, Denise, Sue, and Patty; caregivers Bethany, Jen, Kate and her niece Deann Adams for the loving care that they provided to our mother making it possible for we her family to grant her wish to care for her at home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW., Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Wednesday from 4-8 P.M. with Rosary at 7:30 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Thursday morning at 9:30 A.M.
