BARBERTON---Charles F. Spray "Fred", 89, passed away May 28, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center. Fred was born in Barberton where he was a life resident and retired in 1982 from the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company after 27 years of service. Fred was a graduate of Ohio University and member of the Barberton First Baptist Church and Barberton VFW Post 1066. He was a former Jr. Achievement Advisor, little league coach, former trustee and treasurer of the former Covenant Baptist Church, volunteer for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years, at the Hospice Care Center for over five years and the Barberton soup kitchen for many years. Fred was a proud WWII Army Veteran and served on the D-Day invasion. He was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient and in 2011 he received the Legion of Honor Medal from the French Government. Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mildred; sister Ruth Anderson and brother William Spray; Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Miriam E.; sons Jeffrey (Laura) of Green and Mark (Pamela of Perrysburg; daughter Connie (Dr. Stephen) Barker of Jamesville, N.Y.; grandchildren Scott, Kevin, Adam, Cassandra and Jenna Spray, Christopher and Eric Barker and Stephanie (Marc) Gattie; and sister Helen McNeil. Funeral Service will be held at 10 A.M on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Barberton First Baptist Church, 250-6th St. N.W., Barberton. Dr. John Thielenhaus officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling Hours Monday from 5-8 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center or Barberton Area Community Ministries.
