Heaven's door opened for David Stavarz on November 3rd, 2026, at the age of 67, following an eight week battle with cancer.
David was born on October 6th, 1959, in Norton, Ohio, to Alex and Elsie Stavarz. He was baptized on October 25th at Holy Trinity Church, beginning a lifelong devotion to his Catholic faith. He attended Norton High School class of 1978 and later Bowling Green State University class of 1983
In October of 1988, David married the love of his life, Jean, at Holy Trinity Church. Together, they raised three sons. Throughout their 38 years of marriage, David often joked that he was never quite sure how Jean had managed to put up with him for so long. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, patience, and commitment.
An avid and dedicated runner throughout his life, David believed strongly in the value of consistency, discipline, and perseverance. His passion for running led him to complete several ultra marathons, reflecting the determination and work ethic that characterized so much of his life. David also spent years sharing his love of the guitar and music with his sons.
David devoted many years to Boy Scout Troop 110, including serving as Scoutmaster for 10 years. Through his leadership and personal example, he helped instill a generation of young men the importance of integrity, responsibility, service, and self-reliance. He believed in leading by example, demonstrating the virtues of humble hard work, steadfast character, and uncompromising honesty. These were not simply principles he taught, but values he made every effort to live by each day.
His commitment to serving others extended into his community. David was an active member of the Summit Men's Group, where he joined fellow group members in charitable work, including volunteering at Gennesaret. He believed that faith was something to be lived through action, generosity, and service to those in need.
Above all, David was a man of deep and unwavering Catholic faith. He was never reluctant to speak openly about his beliefs, defend the teachings of the Church, or encourage others to embrace their faith. Even during his final days, as his strength diminished, his convictions remained steadfast. He continued sharing his faith with anyone willing to listen, whether family, friends, visitors, or the hospital staff caring for him. His determination to bear witness to his beliefs endured until his final breath.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his three sons, Fr. David, Dylan, and Alex; his sister, Margaret Ann; and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alex; his mother, Elsie; his brother, Alex; and his sister, Jackie.
David's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. David's son, Fr. David A.
