Debra A. Bernard

BARBERTON---Debra A. Bernard, 51, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2011 after a brave six month battle with brain cancer. Deb was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Barberton High School Class of 1978, Ashland University where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and The University of Akron. She was very proud of her career as a registered nurse on the mother/baby unit of Summa Akron City Hospital. Deb loved summer concerts at Blossom, class reunions, scrapbooking and her three little dogs Bear, Pooh and Mya. Preceded in death by her father Bill Bernard and cherished nephew William; Deb is survived by her mother Phoebe Bernard; sisters Susan (Gary) Byers and Karen (Tony) Medzi; brother Bill (Pam) Bernard; nieces and nephews Sarah (John) Jacobs, Becky and Ed Byers, Andrew and Madeline Hornacek, Ben, Christin and Alaina Bernard, Alyssa Byers and Landon Jacobs. The family would like to express our special thanks to Deb's wonderful friends and neighbors, her awesome Summa sisters and everyone who sent a card, said a prayer or helped Deb in any way. Our deepest thanks to her kind and devoted caregivers Megan, Nathan, Patty and Paula.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 A.M. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Tuesday from 5-9 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Wednesday morning at 9:30 A.M.
