Dolly D. (Carneal) Patrick

December 12, 1935 — January 20, 2023

Barberton

Dolly Carneal Patrick peacefully passed away at Liberty Residence on January 20, 2023.   She was born on December 12, 1935 in Clifty, KY, to Ruth Eliza and Benjamin Franklin Carneal.  Dolly spent her earliest childhood years in Kentucky, until she and her family boarded a train in 1944 and headed for Barberton, Ohio, to join her father, who had accepted a job at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.  In 1951, Dolly married Thomas Anthony Patrick and spent the next 41 years happily raising five children in Barberton.  Tom preceded Dolly in death in 1993.

Dolly worked for over forty years as a waitress at Hopocan Gardens, where she thoroughly enjoyed laughing and interacting with her customers and fellow employees.  She liked to say that her “regulars” helped her overcome some pretty difficult times.  However, she considered her most important and rewarding job to be that of wife and Mother.  She especially treasured her 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and embraced every moment she spent with them.

Dolly was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Anthony Patrick, daughter Toni Annette Withem, granddaughter Jessica Erin Bloom, father and mother Benjamin and Ruth Carneal, siblings Margie McGeehee, Bland Carneal, Rena Heyneman, Rosemary Saxton, James Carneal and Shirley Jane Carneal, all waiting to welcome her with open arms.  Oh what a reunion!

“Tis a fearful thing to love what death can touch”--those left to mourn her passing are her children, Susan and William Vaill, Sandra and /David Chisnell, Linda McCann, Thomas and Christine Patrick, Jr, brothers Benjamin, Jerry and Daniel Carneal, grandchildren Matthew Goniewski, Nathan and Seth Vaill, Joshua Chisnell, Jody Matyja, Amanda, Thomas and Michael Withem, Jonathan Lipovsky, Laura Evans, Joshua, Amanda, Zachary, Emily, Xamar, Xiamaria, Xeona, Kristian, Kaden and Jaydien Patrick, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A special thank you to Liberty Residence, especially Nurse John and Aides Rayel, Dominique, Ray, Pearl, Daja and Misty, who embraced and provided special care for her, and took on the role of family when hers couldn’t be there.  Her family is grateful.
