Donna Jean (Decasper) Houk

Donna J. Houk (nee DeCasper), born July 27, 1931, passed peacefully on July 24, 2024 surrounded by her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents Dominic and Anna DeCasper, husband Bill, brother Don, and sons Ed and Bill (Willy).  Born and raised in Massillon, Ohio, she moved to Barberton when she married Bill Houk in 1952; they were married for 48 years until Bill’s passing.  Donna spent a long 33-year career at Barberton Citizens Hospital, working as a nurse’s aide, in the dietary department, and in Central Services.  Following her retirement from BCH, she spent several years as a crossing guard in Barberton, assisting the children at the former Portage Elementary School. Donna is survived by her daughters Rhonda (Don) Wood and Anne (Mark) Hanna; daughter-in-law Chris Houk; brother Jim; sisters Barbara Herold, Patty Stuller, and Janet North. She is also survived by grandchildren Pam (Brad) Morrison, Greg (Katie) Houk, Steve (Thais) Wood, Sue (Jay) Salem, Joe (Lisa) Bodnar, Mike (Amy) Bodnar, William (Megan) Houk, and Josh (Liz) Hanna; and great-grandchildren Ryker Morrison, Logan, CJ, and Nathan Houk, Julian and Dorian Salem, Veronica and Dominic Wood, Adeline, Delanie, Elliott, Juniper Bodnar, Gus, Lisa, and Phoebe Houk, and Alivia and Kace Hanna. Donna was a friend to all who knew her, including the residents and staff at Pleasant Point Assisted Living in Barberton, where she resided for the last 8 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW., Barberton. Burial Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and also Wednesday morning from 9- 9:30 a.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
