BARBERTON - Doug Sobul, age 80, passed away March 31, 2014. Doug was born in Akron, Ohio and attended Garfield High School. He is a veteran of the US Army. Doug retired from the Barberton Post Office and dedicated his time to helping raise his granddaughter, Payton. Doug was an avid sports fan, playing on and coaching area softball teams. He was inducted into the Summit County Softball Hall of Fame, Class of 2005 as was his father, as one of the area's best softball pitchers. He enjoyed following many area high school football and basketball teams, but especially loved his six-time world champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Luke Sobul, and his mother, Ruth Sobul. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Jeanne (Battay), daughters Karen Miller and Rebecca Murphy, son-in-law Mike Miller, grandchildren Payton Murphy, Michael Miller, Chris Miller and Ali Miller, and aunt Charlotte Sobul. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Atul Goswami, and staff Jessica and Jennifer, as well as Dr. Ishan Haque for their unending care and support. Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Fr. Robert Jackson officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling Hours Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the service time.
