BARBERTON---Dr. John D. Petrich, 88, passed away March 4, 2022. John was born in Forest City, PA to the late John and Albina (Osolin) Petrich and moved to Barberton in 1937. He was a graduate of Barberton High School, The College of Wooster, Loyola University College of Dental Surgery and the Boston University Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry-Endodontics. John was a proud Air Force Veteran and served at the Dental Clinic at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth, TX. He then practiced Endodontics in Dayton for 10 years, moving his practice to Fairlawn through 1992. He was an Endodontic Consultant to Wright Patterson AFB Dental Clinic, Dayton VA Hospital and then taught Graduate Endodontics at the University of Kentucky Dental School, Lexington and the OSU School of Dentistry. John lectured to numerous dental organizations and was a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Endodontists, Dayton Dental Society, Dayton Society of Children’s Dentistry, Ohio Dental Association. He was a founding member of the Ohio Association of Endodontists, Akron Dental Society and American Board of Endodontists Certified. John was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church now Prince of Peace Parish and was a founding member of their St. Vincent DePaul Society. He helped in the baking group making nut rolls and strudels and a member of K.S.K.J. #110. He enjoyed gardening, photography and watercolor painting. He was a long time student of local artist Cathy Welner. John also took art workshops with Tom Nichols, Fred Graff, Arleta Pech and numerous other artists. He had an extensive collection of art and knew many Ohio artists. His flower garden and yard provided many references for painting. He is survived by his brother Robert (Pat) Petrich, nephews Robert (Kris) and Michael (Tanya); niece Stephanie (James) Bell; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and cousins. John’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Prince of Peace Parish, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton. Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Forest City, PA. Calling Hours Thursday at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Parish.
