Dr. Raymond J. Dutchman

October 29, 1930 — July 14, 2016

Dr. Raymond J. Dutchman, age 85, of Norton, died peacefully on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Bethel, CT, surrounded by his children and listening to Nat King Cole. Raymond was born October 29, 1930 to Frank and Frances Dutchman in Forest City, PA. Later the family moved to Barberton where Raymond’s siblings, Lucille and Richard, were born. Raymond graduated from Barberton High School, John Carroll University and Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in 1956. At WRU he met his wife, Ann Hofius, R.N., on a blind date at a dental fraternity party, and they married in 1955. After his graduation from dental school, he enlisted and was commissioned Captain in the United States Air Force. Raymond (whom she called ‘Dutch’) and Ann were stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA. After completing service, Dr. and Mrs. Dutchman returned to Barberton with daughter Carolyn in 1958. Raymond established his dental practice in Norton. He and Ann purchased their first home a few blocks away on Parkway Blvd., where son, Ray Jr., and daughters, Susie and Jan, were born. Raymond golfed, bowled, played poker, fished, followed harness racing and the Cleveland Indians, joined Gyro International, and actively participated in Sacred Heart and Prince of Peace Catholic Parish. Dr. Dutchman was a gentle, talented and popular dentist. He played the Ohio Lottery twice each week for many years without winning a darned thing. He had better luck after he switched to Bingo scratch-offs. Raymond was a devoted son who lovingly cared for his parents until their deaths. He lived his life surrounded by his large extended family and dear friends who blessed him with unconditional love, support, companionship, and opportunities for lively debate throughout his life. Raymond is pre-deceased by his wife, Ann, parents Frank and Frances, and sister Lucille (Victor) Rego. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Richard (Karen) Dutchman; children, Carolyn (Bill) Titterington of Texas, Raymond (Christy) of California, Susan (Ron) Filoramo of Florida, and Jan (Brian) Dearth of Connecticut; cherished grandchildren Leigh Anne (John), Lauren, Andrew, Katie, Libby, Cal, Peter and Ray; great-grandchildren Caroline and Max; nieces and nephews, loving extended family and dear friends.
