Edith M. (Anderson) Canning

June 19, 1925 — July 12, 2021

Barberton

BARBERTON---Edith Marie Canning (Anderson), 96, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born June 19, 1925, in Barberton, where she was a lifetime resident.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John, with whom she enjoyed 55 years of marriage, her parents John and Laura Anderson, and brothers Don and Bob.  Her granddaughters Jackie and Meredith also precede her.

She is survived by her four children: Jim (Kathie) Canning of Las Vegas, NV, Kathleen (Bill) Kaludy of Barberton, Tom (Patty) Canning of Doylestown and Rosemary Canning of Canal Fulton.  She leaves behind a host of doting grandchildren: Matthew (Debbie) Canning, Courtney McNeill, Nathan Kaludy, Keri (CJ) Dennison, Maren (Brett) Witzberger, Joseph (Starla) Canning, and Evan Schmidt, along with 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Augustine Parish in Barberton.  She loved staying in tune with the politics of the day and was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Indians and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Mom/Grandma will always be remembered for her faith, love for her family, and her busy social calendar!  She was a proud member of the “43 Queens”, as her family so affectionately named them.  Her monthly lunches with her high school girlfriends were always one of the highlights of her hectic schedule.  She developed close friends at Giant Eagle where she would go for coffee in the afternoons.

Edith was the life of any party, always the most popular among the friends of her kids and grandkids.  She had an affinity for “cutting a rug” at family parties.  Everyone could count on Grandma Edith being in the mix when the music started.  She loved music, with Grandpa referring to her as “Hot Lips Anderson” in her early days playing trumpet in the school band.

Per Edith’s wishes, there was a small family showing, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.  To share a memory or send a condolence, please visit www.silva-hostetler.com
