NORTON--Edward J. Arvay, age 85, cherished father, passed away unexpectedly on June 23rd, 2015. Born in Barberton, Ohio, Ed was a lifelong member of the area. He was a graduate of Barberton High School and member of the Magics' 1947 State Football Championship team. After high school, Ed joined the United States Air Force and served as a member of the Air Police before returning to the area. A retiree of Ohio Edison, he was an avid golfer and active member of the Barberton Moose lodge #759 golf league. Ed was also an active member of the Eagles Aerie #2117 serving in the role as Worthy Conductor for the last 16 years, a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1617 and a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sue; Ed is survived by son Edward J. Jr. (Christine) of Euclid; daughter Kathleen Arvay of Norton; sister, Dolores (Benjamin) Wathey; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Stephen) Taylor; brothers-in-law, John, Vincent (Marlene) and Michael (Mitzi) Kernan and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd., Norton. Fr. James Maloney celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton where prayers will be said Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.
