Ellen Kepler (née Sweeney), 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on December 8, 2022. Ellen was born November 19, 1949, in Barberton, Ohio, as the third and youngest daughter of the late Darl and Loretta Sweeney.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband, Rick; her daughters, Allison Noga (Joe), of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sarah Nash (Chris) of Lexington, S.C.; and her four beautiful grandchildren, Adam Noga and Addison, Connor, and Logan Nash. She is also survived by her sisters, Jean Calder (Jim) of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Anne Sweeney of Barberton, as well as her nephew Eric Calder (Kris) and their three children, Conner, Thomas, and Abby, of Austin, Texas.

Ellen’s greatest joys in life centered around her family. She enjoyed vacationing at the beach with her husband and kids, listening to the waves and feeling the ocean breeze. One of her favorite activities over the years was attending her daughters’ and grandchildren’s sporting events; she was their biggest fan! She also loved getting together for weekend dinners at home and playing Euchre and Yahtzee with her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to her nightly phone calls with her daughters and sisters, chatting about anything and everything. Holidays were extra special for Ellen, and her Thanksgiving dressing matched her mom’s recipe to perfection.

Ellen loved dancing to the sounds of Motown almost as much as rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers (even during their worst years!). She possessed a great sense of humor that came from her Irish heritage. She was well-informed on what was happening in the world and truly cared about humanity. Her husband describes her as the most empathetic person he’d ever met. She was honest, loyal, and selfless, dedicating her life to her loved ones. She touched the lives of everyone around her and will be missed beyond measure.

A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held privately with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Barberton Area Community Ministries. To share a memory or send a condolence, please visit www.silva-hostetler.com
