Eugene K. Harhay, 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 22, 2025. Born in Barberton, Ohio, Eugene lived a long and full life defined by devotion to his loved ones, service to his country, and a love of life’s many joys.
A proud veteran, Eugene served in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. His courage and commitment to duty reflected the strength of character he carried throughout his life.
Eugene was known for his warmth, sense of humor, and passion for numbers. He loved dancing, attending symphonies, light operas, and trying his luck at a good game of chance. A lifelong fan of Westerns, he especially enjoyed a well-staged gunfight on screen, which always brought a smile to his face. Above all, nothing gave him greater joy than watching his grandchildren grow up, sharing in their lives and milestones with deep pride.
To his family and friends, Eugene was a steady and loving presence—kind, patient, and always ready with a story, a laugh, or a bit of wisdom. His life was a testament to resilience, loyalty, and the enduring bonds of family. He remained deeply in love with his wife, Florence, until the day he passed, and their love story is one that will be cherished by all who knew them.
Eugene is survived by his sons, Philip Harhay and his wife Michelle, David Harhay and his wife Linda; his granddaughters, Jessica Harhay, Emma Harhay, and Briannea Machczynski; and his grandson, Noah Cantera. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Florence Harhay, and his brother Robert Harhay.
