Frankie Spetich

BARBERTON---Frankie L. Spetich, 88, passed away December 4, 2012 at Summa Barberton Hospital after a brief illness. A lifetime resident of Barberton, for the past 60 years he assumed the role of "Barberton's Polka King" as well as that of musician, bandleader, entertainer, songwriter, radio personality, teacher and promoter of his beloved Slovenian heritage. Through his music he touched many people throughout the world, having recorded over 16 CD's and 9 albums. In 1999 Frankie received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame. Frankie served the United States Army in Europe during World War II. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Frankie is survived by his loving wife, Betty, children, Russ & Shelley Lee, Canal Fulton, OH, Sally & Jack Simonds, Uniontown, OH, Becki & David Haller, Louisville, OH, Peggy & J.B. Brosdahl of Ramsey, MN, Andy & Sharon Lee, Zimmerman, MN, Michael & Debbie Spetich, Canton, OH, Judy & Pat Pramik, Barberton, OH, and Frank & Colleen Spetich, Barberton, OH.; 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 2:00-7:00 P.M at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, Ohio 44203. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11:30 A.M. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Building Fund, Loyola Retreat House, Inc., or the Polka Hall of Fame, Cleveland, OH.
