George E. Jakubiak, 94, passed away on June 3, 2024 after complications from a fall. He was preceded in death by his father George
Jakubiak and his mother Helen Griglak Jakubiak, as well as brothers Joseph and John. He is survived by sisters, Sr. Mary Jakubiak, OP, of Akron, Virginia Ann Jakubiak and Bernadette Charles, both of Spokane, WA, and niece Meaghan Metcalfe of Spokane Valley, WA.
George worked in the Parks Planning Division of the of Akron for most of his working career. A devout, lifelong member of St. Augustine Parish, Barberton, he was a bass member of the choir. Love of singing drew him as well to the Canton Men’s Chorus. A lover of semi-classical music, he tuned to his favorite radio station in the morning and enjoyed it as background all day.
George loved being outdoors, helping friends with their gardens and walking various trails and parks until it became too difficult. He especially reveled in pruning opportunities, giving it up only very reluctantly as ageing made it more difficult. He was a CSA member and volunteer at Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath OH. George also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing with his friends. He was a kind and generous brother to us and we will dearly miss him.
Cremation has been carried out by Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church, 206 Sixth St. NW, Barberton, on July 20, 2024, at 10am. His cremains will then be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath, OH, or the Akron-Canton Food Bank.
