BARBERTON---George was born on September 13, 1926. He was lovingly received into the arms of Jesus on August 8th, 2014. He went peacefully with his family at his side with prayers and polka music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Ligas, and siblings: Mary, Andy, Frank, Annie, Josie, Sue, Liz, Joe, Margie, and granddaughter Kelly Ann.
He is survived by his loving, caring wife of 66 years, Norma (Genet) Ligas; brother, Pete; and children: Linda (Chuck) Rammel, Geralyn (Ron) Frascone, George (Ron Waldron), John (Debbie), Vince (Kim), Rob (Wendy), Marty (Wendy), as well as 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a lifelong Barberton resident and parishioner at both SS. Cyril and Methodius and Prince of Peace Catholic Churches. He was an altar server for over 70 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus #1617. George shared his love of nature with his family and enjoyed polka music, bowling and cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
George proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at PPG for 7 years and retired from Goodyear with 37 years of service as a pipefitter/plumber.
We wish to sincerely thank George's tender caregivers, Yvonne, Annie, Kevin, Jim, Sarah and all others from the Hospice of Summa for their care and support.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 15th from 5-8 p.m. at SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton with rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Barberton. Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Church or Hospice of Summa.
