Gerald (Jerry) W. Young, 92, of Barberton, passed away May 17, 2025. Jerry was born in Akron, Ohio on December 16, 1932, to the late Lbert and Ella Young. He lived the early part of his life in Akron, graduating from Kenmore High School in 1951, and later resided in Barberton. Jerry served in the army during the Korean war. After this he worked as a fire fighter and EMT for the City of Barberton for more than 25 years. He also worked for the Gerber Products Company and as an electrician. Later in life he became a unique employee of Hodge’s Café in Barberton. Jerry enjoyed traveling to Florida and spending time with family and friends. He especially liked visiting a variety of Barberton and Kenmore area establishments. Regulars at these establishments are asked to raise a toast to “Forever” Young. Jerry also enjoyed area sporting events and was a diehard Browns fan.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Valerie Donahue, second wife Rita Kepler, daughter, Laurie Trusky, and brother William Young. Jerry will be dearly missed by his children, Jerry (Sue) Young, Linda (Gary) Kellar, and Julie (Terry) Kuhn; son-in-law, Ron Trusky; grandchildren, Nicole Bennett, Dusty (Aaron) Price, Laura (Dave) Benedict, Andy (Xinran) Young, Katy (Trent) Heter, Angela (Joey) Huber, and Evan (Krystina) Kuhn; 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, his brother Charlie (Sue) Young and numerous friends.
Jerry's Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Calling Hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Last Alarm Service at 12:15 p.m. Burial to follow at 1:45 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
