BARBERTON---Gertrude K. Hornacek, 91, passed away May 1, 2011 at Summa Barberton Hospital. Gertrude was a lifelong resident of Barberton where she graduated from Barberton High School and retired from the Accounts Receivable Dept. at Barberton Citizens Hospital after 18 A½ years. She was a hospital volunteer from her retirement until her health deteriorated. She was a long time member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary and St. Anne's Society, until it closed. She was currently a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Gertrude was an avid card player, cook and loved to polka. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling and was also a cancer survivor. After losing her husband in 1981, his shipmates from the USS Mertz from WWII, became a great part not only of her life but of her family. Preceded in death by her husband Joseph, parents Joseph and Ella Kochis and brothers Joseph and Frank Kochis; Survivors include her son Donald (Zeny), daughter Rosemary (Gary) Shannon, son Mark (Margaret); grandchildren Joseph, Anthony, Geoff (Jennifer), Nathaniel, Christian, Shannon and Benjamin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 6, 2011, 10:30 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Thursday from 5-8 PM at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Rosary at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis de Sales Church.
