NORTON---Glenn Abraham Mitchell, 81, went to his eternal home on December 25, 2011. He was born in Barberton to Clayton and Mabel (Oplinger) Mitchell. Survivors include his wife Jacqueline (nee Kline); sons Douglas (Barbara) and Stephen (Kathryn); daughter Rebecca Mullenix; grandchildren Joshua (Carol), Daniel and Ben (Dayna) Mitchell, Nathan (Irene) and Diana Mullenix and Bethany (Tony) Hall; great-grandchildren Toby, Skye, Noah, Olivia, Jaden and Anthony; brother Eugene "Dutch" and Sandra (Kline) Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews. Glenn also loved his dogs. He was preceded in death by brothers Donald, Jim, Bill, Ned, Dick, Ted and Dale; and sister Ruth Trostle. Glenn graduated from Barberton High School in 1948 and Howard Trade School in 1953. He was a member of Local #219 Steamfitter and Plumbers Union. In 1972 he went to work at Ford Motor as a maintenance man, retiring in 1993. Glenn was very active with Norton Baseball, first helping with the building of Howell Field and then manager of the Dodgers. In tournaments the All Stars took third in the State. Glenn had 46 years of perfect attendance at Barberton First Church of Christ, which ended when he had cancer surgery at Johns Hopkins in December of 1986. The family flew home on December 25, 1986 and God chose to give them 25 more Christmas' as a family. Glenn was a snow bird and enjoyed spending the winter at his home in Palm Bay, Florida. He also enjoyed traveling the U.S. in his motor home sharing many of these trips with his family. Per Glenn's request there will be no calling hours and Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his life will be held in June.
