Helen F. (Smith) Flickinger

Helen Faith Flickinger passed away in her home on February 20, 2025 at 102 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband William, beloved granddaughter Gretchen, parents Levi and Hazel Smith and siblings James Clifford Smith and Rebecca Jean Kane.

She is survived by her five children and spouses: Janice Kovack (David), Barbara Schrader (Gary), Mary Beth Cinadr (William), Dr. Nancy Flickinger (David Ereth), and William ( Ann).

Helen had seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who visited her regularly. They are Gretchen Pappas (James), Maddie and Ryan; Rebecca Lubben, Joseph and Sarah; Christopher Schrader (Melissa), Jacob and Olivia; Zachary Schrader (Courtney); Phillip Schrader (Kristin), Nathan and William; Ellen Brately (Brian), and Andrew Ereth.

We are so grateful to Mom for so many things but especially for the 12 years she cared for our Dad.  Mom was a lot of fun and made us laugh all the time. She had a constant flow of visitors bearing gifts of chocolate, baked goods and treats galore. She was devoted to watching daily Mass and praying the rosary.

We give a special “thank you” to so many caregivers especially Josey, Susan, Dee Juanita, Celeste and Lynn who loved her like family. Thank you to a special friend, Linda, who brought Communion to her. We are so grateful to the staff of Summa Barberton Family Physicians for their special care.

Helen's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. Burial at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Doylestown. Calling Hours Friday, February 28, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Esther Ryan Shoe Fund through the Barberton Community Foundation or Barberton Area Community Ministries food bank (BACM).
