CLINTON---James V. Chance, 67, passed away April 29, 2010 after an extended illness. Born in Waverly, TN, he was an area resident all his life and lived in Clinton for the last 25 years. James retired from The Babcock & Wilcox Co after 30 years of service. He coached baseball for many years in the North Hill area and was an avid sports fan. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceded in death by his son Wayne, parents Homer and Ellen; and brother Muriel; Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Betty J.; children John Chance, Margi Chance, James S. (Nicole) Chance; step-daughters, Brenda (Darrell) Dillon and Celinda (Jimmy) Greathouse; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Bill (Janet), James D. (Yvonne) and Murray; sisters Frances Walter, Doretha (Gary) Brunty and Sally (Doug) Phipps; and brother-in-law George (Imogene) Schlagenhauser. Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 3, 2010, 12 PM at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Pastor Matthew McDaniel, officiating. Interment at East Liberty Cemetery. Calling Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM and Monday One Hour Prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc, American Lung Assoc. or Arthritis Foundation.
