James R. Gangle of Copley, Ohio died April 10, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Born in 1940 in Barberton, Ohio, Jim attended St. Augustine's Elementary School and graduated from Barberton High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fulton from 1958-1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
In 1961, Jim married the love of his life and best friend, Lovetta Sue (Wildroudt), celebrating 52 years of marriage in 2013.
Jim took great pride in his family, his Catholic faith, and his family business, Jim Gangle Bulldozing & Excavating Co., that his father started in 1947. He was meticulous with his trucks and equipment, which carried through to his customers and contractors. Throughout his life, he made many business relationships that turned into lifelong friendships.
Jim enjoyed hunting, watching Nascar, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his 9 grandkids.
Jim was an active and life member of the NRA, Historical Construction Assoc., and the Greater Akron & National Home Builders Association. He was also a life member and past commander of the Frank Bender American Legion Post 473 and took great pride in flying the American flag daily.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth (Werner), sister Carole Freno, and brother's in law Dick Myers and Gary Gray. He is survived by his wife Sue, sisters Peg Myers and Sally Gray of Barberton, Judi (Dave) Wanczyk of Thorton, CO., Jean (Dave) Sweet of Canal Fulton, and brother in law Bernie Freno of Barberton. Jim is also survived by his children, Terri (Butler) Day of Atlanta, GA, Jim (Cheryl) of Copley, Dave (Justine) of Birmingham, AL, Russ (fiancAC. Amy Crow) of Atlanta, GA and Beth (Steve) Morris of Louisville, OH. He was "Pap-Pap" to his 9 grandchildren, Nick, Drew, Rob, Lee, Lake, Cole, Joe, Sam and Megan.
The family would like to thank all of the staff and doctors at Akron General Medical Center and Concordia at Sumner for the excellent care he received.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd., Norton. Burial with military honors at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Calling hours Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church.
