James “Jim” Miller Jr. passed away on November 24, 2023 at his home.
Born November 9, 1935 to Viola and Lionel James Miller he was the youngest of 5 children. He was raised on the family farm in Medina and graduated from Medina High School in 1954. During his childhood, Jim developed a lifelong love and passion for the farm-life and the great outdoors.
After graduation, Jim joined the Army and was stationed in Alaska, as if it was his destiny. He was able to hunt and fish and take advantage of all the state had to offer.
He returned to Ohio and began his 30 year career of service to the Akron Fire Department, first as a Firefighter and, after a series of promotions, retiring as a Captain.
During any spare time, Jim did home remodeling work to support his family and his expensive “hobbies.” Because of his love for farming and hunting, Jim would invest in and buy farm properties. Much to his wife’s chagrin,
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan, daughter Traci (Steve) Pedersen, sons Roger (Kim) Miller, Gregg Miller, Brian (Lisa) Miller, grandchildren, Dana (Eric) Perry, Logan and Bennett Miller, and Eric Marsh, and great-grandson Ayden Perry. He is also survived by his sister Lynn Byer.
