Janet M. (Sabo) Starr

December 19, 1952 — May 2, 2016

DOYLESTOWN---Our shining “Starr,” Janet, 63, of Doylestown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 2, 2016. Janet was born in Akron, and she attended grade school at SS Cyril & Methodius in Barberton. The classmates of her Norton High School 1971 graduating class voted her “Most Athletic.” Janet loved to compete and pursued her passion for horses as a quarter horse owner and breeder, winning countless competitions at the World Quarter Horse Show, All American Quarter Horse Congress, Ohio Quarter Horse Futurity, Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Show, Central Ohio Saddle Club’s Grand Champion award, and the National Snaffle Bit Assn Triple Challenge Futurity Championship. She was most proud of achieving the American Quarter Horse Association Champion national title. While courageously battling cancer for the past four years, Janet established a thoroughbred breeding program and accomplished a rare feat… The first horse she bred, InviteTheRight Bay (Bunny), competed and placed at Thistle Down racetrack. A Realtor for more than 35 years, Janet touched and impacted many lives by working tirelessly to help hundreds of families achieve the dream of home ownership. After earning her Broker’s license, she started her own real estate company, Janet Starr Realty. She was recognized with many awards including the Ohio Assn. of Realtors Presidents Sales Club, Akron Area Board of Realtors’ Gold Level Achievement, and Women’s Council of Realtors Board of Governors Member Services recognition. Her fun personality, bubbly laughter and big heart were infectious, and she always had a beautiful smile for everyone. Janet was preceded in death by her Dad, John Sabo. She is survived by her Mom, Marge Sabo, sisters Kathy (Jeff Barstow) Yaussy, Mary Jo Nichols, Diana (Denny) Ball, Christine (Ed Sunkin) Sabo, Barbara (Mike) Primovero and Beth (Jerry) Baughman; brothers John (Terri) Sabo and Ron (Kim) Sabo; 23 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews; her furry kids Sarge, Bonnie Blue, Brandy, Gracie, Sophie, Rosie, Drewman, Bunny, Casper, DeeDee, Georgie, Velvet and one-week-old colt ‘Starr’light; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. The family will receive friends at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Road West, Barberton, on Thursday, May 5, 11 am–2 pm and 4-7 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton.  Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
