BARBERTON---John Joseph Engy, 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning June 27th. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Ann and their daughters Teresa (Richard) Shaw, Rebecca Engy and Christine Izo. Another daughter Julie along with his parents and sister Veronica Turk preceded him in death. John has four grandchildren Justin, Joseph and Rachel Shaw, Emma Izo and great-grandson Devin Shaw. John was born in Barberton, OH on March 17, 1932 to John and Katherine Engy. He was a 1950 graduate of Norton High School where he participated in four sports. John was a military policeman serving in the Korean War and served in the National Guard for 2 A½ years. John was a volunteer fireman for Norton for four years and was the first sergeant for the City of Norton Police Department. John then worked for Midwest Rubber in Barberton for 22 years and retired from the City of Barberton water department in 1997. Along with his wife and daughters, John is survived by mother-in-law Mary Szittai, sister-in-law Ann Szittai; lifelong friends Ron Olenick and Jim Heffelfinger and numerous nieces and nephews. John loved his Lord and family first. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. John was a member of the Chapel in Green. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, 10am at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours 4 to 8pm Friday, June 28, 2013.
