John T. Geig

John “Papa John” Geig, 61, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 15, 1963 in Akron, Ohio.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a successful businessman who owned Geig’s Homecare Appliance for over 40 years. John loved spending time in nature – whether it was camping with his family down in Cambridge, walking his Zoey girl on the towpath trail or fishing with his grandsons.

John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Christine (Chrissy) Geig; his children, Joshua Geig, Mike (Kara) Geig and Emily (Justin) Hoffman; his grandchildren Lincoln, Luke and Henry; his brother Joe (Francis) Geig; his sister-in-law Ann (Dave) Caldwell and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Geig and his brother James Geig.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all the nurses and doctors at Summa Health Hospital who compassionately cared for John during his final days.

John's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. Fr. Jeremy Merzweiler and Fr. Mark Ott are the co-celebrants. Calling Hours will be held One Hour Prior to the Mass AT THE CHURCH. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery where Military Honors will be held directly after. A luncheon will follow at St. Francis de Sales Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Embrace Clinic and Care Center or the Peter Maurin Center.
