It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John W. Gill, who passed away on June 18, 2026, at the age of 83.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family man, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, faith, service, and love. He was the beloved husband of Rose Marie Gill, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage and family life.
John dedicated 38 years of service to Babcock & Wilcox before retiring. Following his retirement, he enjoyed a successful career as a real estate agent, where he was known for his honesty, dedication, and commitment to helping others.
A faithful member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, John generously volunteered his time assisting with hall rentals, renovations, and catering. His dedication to his church reflected his deep faith and willingness to serve his community. He was also a proud member of the Barberton Moose Lodge, where he served as Governor and built many lasting friendships through his leadership and service.
John found joy in golfing, bowling, gardening, and hunting, but his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family. He cherished every opportunity to gather with loved ones, share stories, celebrate milestones, and create lasting memories.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie Gill; his children, Chad (Bonnie) Gill, Carla (Chris) Zahler, and John W. "BJ" Gill (Jamie). grandchildren, Lindsey Zahler, Madalyn and Aubrie Gill; sisters, Linda (Dick) Smith and Connie (Alex) Ristich; sister-in-law, Delores "Dee" Gregory; special friends Bill and Judy Robinson. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
John will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family, church, and community. His legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
John's Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 1051 Robinson Ave., Barberton, where the body will lie in state from 9-10 a.m. Fr. Miron Kerul'-Kmec officiating. Burial at St. Nicholas Cemetery. Calling Hours will be on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. There will be a Moose Lodge Service of Tribute at 6:45 p.m. followed by a Parastas Service at 7:00 p.m.
