John "Jack" S. Sabol

July 12, 1938 — July 31, 2021

Barberton

BARBERTON - Jack (John) Sabol passed away July 31, 2021 of a malignant brain tumor that was diagnosed on April 27. Despite surgery, therapy, and rehab, he was told it was terminal. He spent his last 16 days at home with a family who loved him and made sure he was never without company. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Barbara (Ujcic), 3 children, John, Jennifer Riffle, and Michael and their spouses, Denise and Tom. He considered himself blessed to have 4 humorous, active, and attentive grandchildren, Craig, Todd, Scott, and Andrea and their respective spouses, Emily and Nate. He will also miss his friends, Cooper, Zeke, and Oakley. Jack was born July 12, 1938 to parents, John & Virginia Sabol. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage and enjoyed most “hunky” cooking & baking, never wanting to try new foods because he knew what he already liked. Over the years, he worked at Ric Will (local 219), outside construction companies, and he retired from the Ford Motor Company with over 30 years of service. He also enjoyed his after-hours stints as a soccer and basketball referee. In his younger years, he coached Little League, soccer, and basketball. Later on, he played Silver League softball and in the “over-40” soccer league. He faithfully attended his grandkids sporting events, whether it be wrestling, football, soccer, or basketball and woe be the child who asked his opinion after a game in which they did not play up to potential. When everyone graduated, and were playing no more, he missed the trips he had taken to other schools and states following the teams. He enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas, cruises, hiking in the west, and his trip to Hawaii. His sons took him to Las Vegas in early July for one last hurrah and he thoroughly enjoyed financing a future wing at New York, New York casino. He and Barbara, despite their age, were planning a trip to Disneyworld for their 60th Anniversary. It tickled him to picture the Disney staff trying to extricate them from the “It’s A Small World” ride. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother Jerry, and sister, Patty Sabol Scott. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
