John L. Quirk
BARBERTON---John L. Quirk, 90, passed away August 14, 2011 at Akron General Medical Center.
Born in Lakewood, Ohio he had been a Barberton resident most of his life. He began working at the Babcock and Wilcox Co. in Barberton in 1948 as a draftsman, receiving recognition throughout the years. He retired in 1985 as a resident engineer. He was a proud Marine Corp Veteran and served on the USS Colorado during WWII. John was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a Boy Scout Leader for many years, a member of Knight of Columbus 1617 and Barberton VFW Post 1066. He was devoted to his family and loved them dearly. John was proud of the accomplishments of all his children and frequently said his children and grandchildren were outstanding.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Rita A.; children John (Sharon) Quirk, Rebecca Harvey, Susan Randall, Judy Askew and Kevin (Annette) Quirk; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Kathleen Stiles and Helen Clifford; brother Louis Quirk; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 10:30 A.M. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW, Barberton. Private family burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Endowment Trust Fund.
