ASHTABULA----Jon A. Ashley, age 59, a resident of Ashtabula passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic. Jon was born July 1, 1953 in Ashtabula to Ann (Heflin) and Solomon Ashley and was a 1971 graduate of Ashtabula High School. He married Diane (Lamm) Silva on July 17, 1999 in Ashtabula. Jon retired from the Ashtabula Area City Schools with 30 years of dedicated service, and spent the last 10 years working at Trinity Presbyterian Church. He coached high school volleyball, softball, and football for Ashtabula and Buckeye schools. However, Jon was most proud of his Thomas Jefferson boys and girls basketball teams. "Coach Ashley" will be remembered for his dedication to and love for his T.J. Dolphins. With his warm sense of charity, Jon brought the joy and spirit of the Christmas season into the hearts and homes of local children with his portrayal of Santa Claus. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. Jon's greatest joy and satisfaction was being a grandparent. He is survived by his wife, Diane; son Jon (Christina) Ashley of Ashtabula; stepchildren Chris (Frances) Silva of Barberton and Julie Silva of Akron; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Anthony, Hunter Ashley, Tyler Antonini and Mia and Marco Silva; brother Dave (Sharon) Ashley of St. Joseph, MO and several nieces and nephew.
