Joseph Bettes

October 14, 1951 — August 30, 2024

Norton

Joseph Bettes, age 72, of Norton, Ohio passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024. Joe was born in Akron on October 14, 1951 to Katherine and Matthew Bettes.

Joe graduated from Manchester High School. He was a much respected hard-worker, with a long career as a machinist. Retiring in 2017 from ABC Plastics, Joe had been an employee of several machine shops, such as Reuther Mold. Joe was fully devoted to his wife and son.

Mr. Bettes enjoyed fishing. As a hobby, Joe also made wine and beer. One of Joe’s favorite activities was to work on vehicles and other mechanical equipment with his son. Joe’s garage became a makeshift repair shop. He did a little gardening, as well. He took great pride in driving his Jeep.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents. His wife, Barbara Jean Bettes,  went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2024. The story of Joe and his wife Barb is one that has been often shared and always with smiles. When somewhere around seven or eight years old, they both had climbed the same apple tree where they talked and became childhood friends. As adults, that friendship grew into a lifelong love. They wed on September 25, 1971.  As can be expected, Joe’s life had been negatively impacted by the passing of his wife of 52 years.

Joe is survived by his son, Michael Steven Bettes and sister Mary (Don) Winland. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mike and his father had a relationship not only as father-son, but as best friends. A special ‘thank you’ to his good friend and neighbor of 46 years, Rich Underation.

As per Joe’s request, he has been cremated. A ‘Celebration of Life’ service will be arranged at a future date.
