Joe Carlucci, 82, of Barberton, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday July 19, 2024. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio to James and Helen Carlucci. He graduated from Struthers High School in 1959. He then attended the University of Akron, where he was a member of the Zips football team and earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1963. That same year he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Aulisio. Later, he went on to earn his Master of Education at Westminster College. Upon graduation, he started teaching and coaching at Hoban High School. Joe would spend a couple years teaching in the Youngstown area before his former high school football coach and lifelong friend, “Red” Phillips, offered him a football coaching position at Barberton High School. In 1968, he made Barberton his forever home. During his teaching career at Barberton, he taught business courses and drivers education. He was loved by his students, players and co-workers. While teaching, Joe had also started multiple business ventures, which he used to fund his love for vacationing. Most famously, Jeep and Joe’s Coach House, with fellow teacher/coach Glenn “Jeep” Davis. Other business endeavors over the years included: Rental Properties, Restaurants, and Tri-C Distributors Fundraising, which he was still actively overseeing. Joe never met a person he didn’t like, he was a friend to everyone, and always willing to help someone in need. He believed spending time with family and friends was more important than material things. His friendships truly lasted a lifetime, he talked to high school and college friends weekly and often spent time visiting and vacationing with them. He never turned down the opportunity to get together with his “Akron U Gang” or travel the world with his family and friends. He looked forward to his annual trips to Las Vegas and to St. Maarten in the Caribbean. Family always came first. He loved watching his grandkids participate in sports and attended as many events as he could to support them. He cherished Sunday dinners with his wife, kids and grandkids. Nothing made him happier than when the whole family was together. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Carlucci; brother, James “Sonny” Carlucci; and sister, Diane Rouzzo. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou; son, Joe (Stephanie); daughter, Charlene (Scott) Moyer; son, Jeff (Rosemarie); grandchildren, Zachary, Christian and Elena Moyer and Nicholas, Carmen and Marco Carlucci; sister, Delores (Francis) Fontes; many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. W., Barberton.
