BARBERTON -- Joseph E. Yakimick, 87, passed away July 5, 2012 at the Hospice Care Center in Copley. Born in Connells-ville, Pa., he had been a Barberton resident most of his life, retiring from the Ohio Brass Co. in 1984 after 36 years of service. Joe was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, past Exulted Ruler of the Barberton Elks Lodge 982 and a board member for the 82nd Airborne Division Association. Joe was a proud Army veteran having served during World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division. Joe's first parachute jump was at the invasion of France on D-Day. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; sisters-in-law, Helen Studenic, Wilma DeLeone and Dorothy Yakimick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Hospice Care Center for their wonderful care. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 12, 2012, 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd., Norton, Fr. James Maloney celebrant. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joe's name are requested to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Copley, OH 44333.
