Julia Baker

d. April 18, 2014

Julia Hicov Baker entered into eternal life on Good Friday, April 18, 2014.

We know Mom heard Christ call to her, 'Well done, good and faithful servant... today thou shall be with me in Paradise".

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more... ... ..he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away."

We are eternally grateful to God for giving us Mom for 91 years. We had the best Mom you could have ever asked. She was always there for us, a great Mom and friend.

And definitely the best cook ever! We will never forget Mom's delicious food and especially her great kifli, kolach and many Christmas cookies, her stuffed cabbage and fried chicken and gravy. She made homemade buttermilk biscuits from scratch every night for Dad. And her cream pies... .scrumptious!

Her heart was broken when her oldest son, John, died when he was only 18 years old from cancer. We know there was an incredible reunion on Good Friday.

Mom was born in Barberton, Ohio and was baptized at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, of which her parents were founding members.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Akron for over 55 years.

She was preceded in eternal life by her son, John Paul Baker Jr. and husband, John Paul Baker Sr., her beloved parents, Andrew Hicov Sr. and Anna Keresturik Hicov, her six sisters: Vivian, Violet, Leona, Irene, Baby Pauline, and Pauline II and four brothers, Andrew, Danies, Julian, and John.

She is survived by sons, Tim, Jim (Cecilia) and Rick and three grandchildren, Chrissy, Beth and John. She is also survived by her godson, Jacob Kuzawinski and her brother Michael and many nieces and nephews.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Garimah Jones, Dr. Jeffrey Junko, Dr. Michael Pelini, and Dr. Eric Miller and their wonderful staffs and the nurses at Akron City Hospital for their kindness and great care of Mom. We want to thank her care-givers, who made it possible for us to keep Mom at home. And finally the all the staff at VNS Hospice for Mom's final comfort and their kindness to us.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 8 pm on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. W., Barberton, Ohio 44203. Funeral services are 11 am on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill St. Akron, Ohio 44308 with the Reverend Dr. Allan Bevere and Reverend Dr. Charles Yoost officiating. There will be viewing one hour before the funeral. Immediately following will be a burial service at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3535 Medina Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church of Akron or to the Akron General Visiting Nurse Service Hospice Care at 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron 44333.

With the Saints, O Christ, give rest to Your servant where there is no pain, sorrow nor mourning, but life everlasting. Christos Voskrese! Vostinu Voskrese! Christ is Risen! Indeed he is Risen!
