Karen L. Lohan

Karen L. Lohan, 83, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on April 19, 1943, Karen was the beloved daughter of the late Pete and Grace King. On January 22, 1966, she married her devoted husband, John K. Lohan, beginning a 55 year partnership and family journey that touched seven decades.

Karen was a passionate educator who shaped the minds and hearts of countless young children. A graduate of St. Vincent High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Akron in 1968. Over the course of her 30 year career, she shared her warmth and love of learning at St. Sebastian Grade School (2nd Grade), St. Vincent Grade School (Kindergarten), and Our Lady of the Elms Preschool and Elementary (Kindergarten and 1st Grade).

Beyond the classroom, Karen’s creativity and sense of adventure shone brightly. She was a talented crafter who found immense joy in sewing, quilting, and creating hand-stamped cards for those she loved. An avid reader, she also cherished traveling the world to explore new cultures and places. Above all else, her family was the center of her life.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John K. Lohan; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Lohan; her parents Pete and Grace King; and her father and mother-in-law, John J. and Elinor J. Lohan. Karen is survived by her loving children, Tracie (Ric) Sirlouis and John W. Lohan; her cherished grandchildren, Katie (Michael) Kelley, Sarah (Tony) Hoitink, Erica (Zack) Rohrbaugh, and Libby (Ryan) Weinberg; and her precious great-grandchildren, Porter, Maisie, Alivia and Kennedy. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill (Stephanie) Lohan; her nieces, Colleen (Chris) Moore, Bridgett (Logan) Mullins, Amie (Joe) Clark, and Dina (Gipp) McConnell; her nephew, Brad (Angela) Lohan; and many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff at Pleasant Pointe Assisted Living and Pleasant View Health Care Center—with special thanks to Katlyn, Emma, Jill, Stephanie, Jeanett, Macy and Jasmine—as well as the compassionate team at Elara Hospice Care for their tender care and support.

Karen's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW., Barberton. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Tuesday Morning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at St. Augustine Church.
