Kathleen A. Wynn

Barberton

Kathleen Ann Wynn (Kathy) passed away July 23, 2026 at Summa-Akron City Hospice.

Kathy was a long-time resident of Barberton who lived her final years at Concordia Senior Living Apartments in Copley. She was born February 5th, 1949, and graduated from Barberton High School in 1967. Kathy worked for forty-two years in Purchasing at Barberton Citizens Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Wynn and Helen Shugar Wynn, sister Charlene Schultz and brother Donald Wynn. She is survived by her brother David (Susan) Wynn and numerous nieces and nephews whom she spoiled when given the opportunity.

Kathy was a member of Prince of Peace parish in Barberton and was active there in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. She was a life-long learner and had many interests. In her younger days, they included music, biking, hiking, camping, and everything nature. Since retirement and with mobility issues, she’s been involved with various classes and social activities at Concordia, cooking, writing for the campus newsletter, and in their chorus. Kathy took great pride in a personal charitable project – she knitted hundreds of stocking caps for adults, children and infants which she donated to various charities, including the Embrace Clinic and Care Center in Barberton, the Donation Station at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, St. Vincent de Paul, and Common Threads in Barberton.

Kathy was always on the lookout for ways to help others, whether with groups as mentioned above, or one-on-one with friends. She enjoyed her Hungarian immigrant heritage and family was at her center. She was a fun mix of dogmatic and curious, artistic and steadying, religious and sarcastic, creative, witty even in her final days, and giving of herself to a fault. She will be greatly missed by the many folks who loved her and relied on her.

When pre-planning her funeral years ago she said, “I don’t care much for flowers. Don’t spend for them.” If you want to honor her memory in other ways, please donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Fund held by the Barberton Community Foundation (330 745-5995) or any of the other organizations mentioned above.

Memorial Mass and Calling hours will be announced soon.
